A fiftieth anniversary facing the future
50 years from its founding, the commitment with Fondazione Pieve di Spaltenna is renewed

Viticola Toscana, owner of Castello di Meleto at Gaiole in Chianti, has celebrated 50 years from its founding. It did it inaugurating an ambitious project, the Pieve di Spaltenna Foundation,a project for the area which, as a first objective, will enable the restoration of Pieve di Santa Maria at Spaltenna, an ancient 11thcentury church. The anniversary was celebrated with a series of initiatives, amongst which was the convention “Viticola Toscana & Castello di Meleto: 50 years of opportunities between wine and tourism”, moderated by the journalist Leonardo Romanelli,and apart from the participation of Lucia Pasquini, president of Viticola Toscana and Michele Contartese, general manager of Castello di Meleto, also the mayor of Gaiole in Chianti, Michele Pesciniand the president of Centro Studi Chiantigiani ‘Clante’, the historian Renato Stopaniattended.
“With the constitution of the Foundation “la Viticola Toscana”, Lucia Pasquini explains, “it will transfer this monument from its assets aiming at donating it to the community of Gaiole in Chianti and make it habitable once more.”Thus, Castello di Meleto renews the crowdfunding operation to which it owes its birth: in 1968it was Gianni Mazzocchi who invited the readers of the magazine 4Soldito take part in the Operazione Vigneti, thanks to which Viticola Toscana was born, today owner of the building and the 1,000 hectares of surrounding land. Since its foundation, Viticola Toscana has been committed to the redevelopment of the property also recovering its historic and architectural wealth made up of the Castle (13thcentury) and of many ancient buildings. On occasion of the convention there has also been a presentation of a limited edition of the Chianti Classico Docg 2016 with a sole labelinspired by the historic bottles of Castello di Meleto.
With its 1,600 shareholders, Viticola Toscana represents a unique and efficient corporate model.
