Discovering ancient Tuscan flavours

by Giuliana Cantini

In the heart of the Tuscan countryside, at the doors of San Gimignano, the small town declared UNESCO World Heritage site,  Palagetto Farming Estate emerges, a treasure chest where Arianna, Niccolò and Luca Fioravanti  enthusiastically run the enterprise expressing all their love for the land and its fruits just like granddad Luano  did when he started out. Surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, they are making their dream come true, to live and work so as to offer an elegant and diversified holiday farm hospitality enabling customers to have a taste of authentic Tuscan lifestyle made of ancient flavours and traditional fragrances. The modern cellar is one of the largest in the area and has charming small halls in the “Barricaia” in truly fascinating surroundings and a large outdoor area where to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding countryside among green hills, vineyards and olive groves. The guided tour (available in various languages) starts from the vineyard and continues with an interesting itinerary unravelling the world of wine also thanks to the competent personnel who is able to answer  any queries and skillfully explain the wine-making area of white wines and that of red ones, the  fascinating barrique and barrel cellars ( with about 200 barriques and 15 tonneaux barrels), the bottling plant, that of the bottle ageing and the warehouse. Moreover, there is a corporate olive oil mill (the only one in the area and can be visited upon request), where an excellent extra-virgin olive oil is produced. It is possible to personally choose how to combine tasting sessions of wine along with local products and oil. The Farming Estate is owned by Agriturismo Villa Palagetto: it is a small hamlet with 14th century origins featured by a medieval tower and ancient buildings, once the homes of farmers. The property, fitted out with an outdoor swimming pool with a large sun deck, is made up in two parts: Torre Palagetto and Palagetto di Sotto. In a very relaxed and welcoming environment, equipped with all sorts of amenities, guests can choose, according to their own particular needs, which apartment to stay in – they are all fully furnished and have a kitchen, living room, bedroom/bedrooms – or in the characteristic double bedrooms. Among the services offered there are also cookery courses and guided tours of the Estate with tastings.
