Byron, a boutique hotel with a first class restaurant

by Elisabetta Failla, ph. Archivio Hotel Byron

otel Byron is reached from the sea front of Forte dei Marmi, between Franceschi’s historic Capannina and the more recent Twiga owned by Flavio Briatore. The complex is part of the Soft Living Places Group owned by the Madonna family also including Hotel Plaza e de Russie in Viareggio, recently re-opened following a radical renovation  which lasted two years. “Soul” of the two facilities and CEO of the group is Salvatore Madonna. The Byron is a fascinating 5-star boutique hotel, a patrician dwelling in the heart of Forte dei Marmi where the pleasures of a holiday can be appreciated, born from the joining of two Art Deco villas  owned by the Canevar Dukes of Zoagli.  Here, guests find a soothing atmosphere, typical of large private residences but with all  modern amenities. Situated in front of the sea, it is surrounded by a luxuriant garden with a swimming pool and a view of the majestic Apuan Alps. Breathe in that intimate and collected ambience as you would in a comfortable aristocratic dwelling with areas specially designed for conversation,  serenity and contemplation. All the 16 rooms and 11 suites have their own personal style and features, rendering them unique. All are finely furnished where the décor stands out thanks to an outstanding blend of tones, fine materials and fabrics, all finished with precious details. Even the bed linen is in fine froissé linen to give the maximum, typically Italian comfort, quality and style. Some  face the calm of the garden with a view of the Apuan Alps and the characteristic whiteness of their marble quarries, others face the beach and the sea to enjoy extraordinary sunsets every evening. Two of the suites are real and true apartments with a spacious private gazebo and an open-air Jacuzzi swimming pool. For all the guests, there is also a Spa suite with Jacuzzi and Turkish bath. Art, historical richness of Versilia, comes to life at the hotel where an area called Project Room hosts exhibitions by contemporary artists. Completing and enriching this truly unique environment is La Magnolia, the restaurant which has  held  a one- Michelin-star for 8 years. Enjoy a gourmet experience with typical Tuscan products at their very best but also those from Campania because at the head of the restaurant is the young Cristoforo Trapani, from Piano di Sorrento who has been a pupil of Heinz Beck and Antonino Cannavacciuolo. He has also had more recent experience  in Paris with Yannick Alléno, chef at the 3-Michelin-star Pavillon Ledoyen. Trapani, often invited at Identita Golose in Milan, now proposes a cuisine that’s rich in taste and with a strong Mediterranean mark. Even this year, La Magnola is confirming its position as a Versilian rendezvous, not only for those staying at the hotel but also for those who want to eat out yet still enjoy an informal ambience. Because the service is professional but easygoing.
